Cuba Health Care

If there is anything you should not worry about when you travel to Cuba is Cuba health care

I have traveled to Cuba many times and I have never had any Cuba health concern. I have never had any health problem in Cuba, neither have my friends.

Through out these years I have made sure that Cuba has a very healthy environment (there are no plants or animals in Cuba that could be lethal to humans) and very reliable health system.

People from many different parts of the world are treated in Cuba and it has proved to have achieved great results in the cure and treatment of many diseases.

Cuba Health care is free. It is true that there might be difficulties with some supplies, but there is no problem in Cuba with medical personnel and statistics show that Cuba infant and mortality rates could be compared to those in developed countries.

On the other hand Cuba’s rate of doctor per person is the highest in the world and many Cuban doctors has been sent to offer their services around the world.

UN statistics show that Cuba’s health care compares to the one in developed countries. Cuba’s life expectancy has risen to about 78.3 years, which makes Cuba the 37th country in the world and the 3rd in the Americas, right behind Canada and Chile.  Regarding infant mortality in Cuba, it has declined from 32 (infant deaths per 1,000 live births) in 1957 to 4, 7 in 2008.

There is no need to be especially worried about getting sick in Cuba. But, since it could happen, even at home, just be aware that there is a clinic in Havana, Cira García, that provides any kind of medical service to foreigners: emergency, long-term care, anything you might need.

They have excellent doctors and nurses and they offer a high standard service. (Calle 18, No. 4304, Alt. de Miramar, La Habana, Cuba.  Phone: (53-7) 204-4300.)

In the main cities and tourist destinations there are also clinics for tourists and there are doctors and nurses on call at most hotels 24 hours a day.

What could you recommend?

Well, it would be good to drink only bottle water, just for additional protection, though tap water in Cuba is drinkable.

You can also bring some repellent for mosquitoes if you are allergic and are planning to go to the countryside.

If you take special medication, bring it with you.

Cuba Health regulations

Only visitors from countries where yellow fever and endemic cholera are common or from countries that have been declared as infected areas by the World Health Organization are applied restrictive sanitary regulations and an International Vaccination Certificate is required in such cases.
