Depending on your budget and food preferences choose from a simple or a fancy restaurant, a so called “paladar” or a coffee shop. Restaurant prices range from about $5.00 CUC to $25.00 for a main course, depending on the place. “Paladars” (private restaurants usually run by families) are not necessarily a better option. It all depends on the place. Be aware that touts who offer you a good “paladar” on the streets are commissioned for tourists they bring and the “paladar” they offer is not always the best choice. I guess you better go, check the menu and look around. Your common sense will not betray you.
Be aware that at most restaurants you pay in CUC (Cuban Convertible Pesos). There are some restaurants though, where you are supposed to pay in Cuban Pesos. You can check it in the menu; they usually refer to it as “moneda nacional”. Generally they accept both types of currency. Just keep in mind that 1 CUC equals 24 Cuban Pesos. Don’t let them cheat you!
